Eswatini Swimming Association

BOOST development programme

Introduction

It is pleasing to report that we as an association had a very busy last quarter in swimming with three local galas and one international gala (CANA Zone 1V swimming championships in Lusaka, Zambia). The team of 9 swimmers swam PB’s in over half their events, 3 of the swimmers collectively won 10 medals and our 13-14 female swimmer (Hayley Hoy) won 2nd best overall swimmer in that age category.

MHLUME / SIMUNYE / NGOMANE PROJECT

The Coach, Meluleki Sluga Simelane continued with training lessons with schools in the Ngomane, Simunye and Mhlume areas. He is currently training an estimate of 400 children. The below timetable as reported last quarter still stands. The association is still in the process of looking into hiring an additional coach that is needed to assist in conducting swimming lessons and ensuring the safety of the swimmers.

The development program is going very well, in the beginning of March, Coach Meluleki started a new swimming club Pelicans. The club boasts of 30 swimmers who are spread across the 3 towns. They made their debut at ESA level 0 gala at the end of the Eswatini swimming season. 19 swimmers travelled to Manzini with their coach to partake in this gala.

Local and International Events

To close off the season ESA hosted a level 5 age gala on the 25 and 26th of February. Which show cased a lot of improved times in swimmers in general. The National championships were held over the week of 7 to 13 March. To close off the local season a level 0 gala was hosted on Sunday the 20th of month which was the official introduction of Pelicans swimming club who debuted 19 swimmers.

The ESA Executive is committed to ensuring the continuity and growth of swimming in Eswatini. A very special thank you to Boost Charitable fund for providing sponsorship to ensure that this development project is a huge success.
